Determination and Success – My Story (by Liz)

Hi guys,

This is my personal story. I am sharing it with you to show how keeping positive, using time effectively and staying determined can change your life regardless of how difficult your situation might be right now. I hope my story will inspire you to be proactive and keep strong during the Coronavirus situation. Make a cup of tea, sit back and read about success through adversity 🙂

In 2013, my health collapsed. I became very seriously sick. I lost my job. I lost most of my money. I lost my friends. I lost my apartment. I lost my independence. I was too sick to go outside. I was locked in. I struggled to walk around the house and all basic actions (even washing my hair) were very difficult. At times, just sitting in a chair was incredibly painful and I had to return to my bed to lie in isolation, darkness and silence. I couldn’t get food for myself. I struggled to speak easily. I was sick and seriously disabled.

The doctors told me there was nothing they could do to help me. They said I would probably be sick for quite a long time, but they couldn’t say how long or even if I would ever recover. My situation was similar to the uncertain situation many of you face today with Coronavirus. Feeling you have no control over your lives or your future. Watching all your dreams and plans disappearing and there’s nothing you can do. Feeling worried and alone. The feeling of isolation from the world became normal for me when I was sick. But I wasn’t facing a few weeks or months without work, without income, without health, without friends, without freedom – I was facing years.

It took about a year of suffering for my health to improve enough for me to be able to sit on a sofa and use a laptop for 30 mins or 1 hour a day. I started making plans for a website to give people free lessons for IELTS. But I was still so sick. It was all very difficult. Even typing was hard because I struggled to use my arms. After 6 months, I was well enough to make video lessons in a spare bedroom. All my videos were made by myself while I was sick. My website and videos started to become popular in 2015.

I believe that each situation we face is a challenge. And many challenges have to be fought psychologically. Each day I woke up and decided – what single thing can I do today? I had little strength. But I did have determination, a strategic approach and a positive mindset to improve my life in small ways. My tips are:

  1. Never wake up and compare your life today to what you had before or what you don’t have anymore or what other people have.
  2. Try. Just because your dream seems distant or impossible right now, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. Trying is what it is all about. The more you try, the more doors open. You might just discover you have incredible hidden gifts that you didn’t know about 🙂
  3. Always find the positive in what you choose to do or what you must do. Your perspective matters. Smile and enjoy – it makes everything easier.
  4. Don’t listen to negative voices in your head or from others. If you are surrounded by negativity, drown it out by filling your mind and life with positive thoughts. It isn’t easy. It’s a challenge, but you can do it.
  5. If things get hard for you, reach out to someone or find a solution. The very strongest and most success people are often those who have known what it feels like to struggle or suffer. Making wise choices at tough times is what it is all about.
  6. Don’t delay. None of us know what is round the corner. Use the uncertainty you find yourself in to remind yourself that time matters.
  7. Life is a gift. Appreciate it. Like many gifts, there may be incredible surprises inside if you learn to use it well 🙂 Don’t presume life is just a box to open, it is an opportunity and you are responsible to make the most of it.

To continue with my story, in 2015 it looked like my life was going to get better at last. A successful website and improved health. It felt exciting. But on December 25th, 2015, my health collapsed again for a second time. This was the hardest time for me. I had already been fighting for 2.5 years and now I had to face more years in sickness and pain. I felt deep despair at this time. The support from my family started to fail. I ended up living completely alone while still being sick, disabled and unable to walk outside.

I have been living in considerable isolation since 2016. For these years, I have talked with a human being for only about 1 hour a week. There have been times when I have struggled, both physically and emotionally. Of course with the Coronavirus lockdown, I now do not see anyone at all. Worse still, during these years, I have rarely received any loving messages from my family to keep me strong and give me comfort.

When you face such situations on your own, I believe you must find strength, love and positivity within yourself. If other people don’t give you love, give it to yourself. If others are not a source of strength for you, find that strength within yourself or by reading about inspirational people. If you feel alone, connect to something within yourself that connects us all together and nourishes us. Surround yourself and give yourself what you need to survive and conquer. Never let fear, doubt or complacency stand in your way. Never let any situation or any person stop you from moving forward with your life. Achieving success is within us all.

The concept of “seize the day” is well known, but how many of us actually live this way? While I was sick, I wasn’t able to “seize the day” because I was unwell most of the day. But I did seize 15 mins, 30 mins, one hour or two hours when possible. With such little strength and such little time, I achieved great success. Small steps are not less valuable than large steps. They all lead somewhere. They can lead you to success. But many of us delay too long or give up too soon because we don’t get what we want quickly enough or because it was harder than we imagined. Be patient. Persevere. Trust in your future. Keep taking those small steps with a focused, clear mind. Don’t just take those small steps to achieve success, take those small steps because you love life and you love what you do. Your perspective will change everything.

I became successful by taking very small steps. I never gave up. I stayed determined, focused and positive no matter what life threw at me. My Youtube channel has now reached just over 1 million subscribers. My website is one of the biggest worldwide for IELTS preparation. I have just over 1,000 high band score results shared by successful IELTS candidates (Results Page) which keep me encouraged to continue my work. Knowing that I help people reach their future goals is a wonderful way to live. By working from a sofa whilst being sick at home, I have achieved all this.

I hope my story and my perspectives of how I created a bright future while in isolation, uncertainty and sickness will help you at this difficult time. I hope you will all find happiness and strength even though your lives are not as you wish them to be right now. There are so many positive things you can do even if they do not seem to have a direct impact on your future plans they will help indirectly in ways you can’t imagine right now.

Your life is not at a stand still because you are in lockdown. If you continue developing and being proactive each day, your life will be moving forward regardless of your geography.

Keep Positive! Stay Focused! Be Proactive! Continue taking those Small Steps 🙂

I am thinking of you all at this time.

All the best

Liz

Please feel free to share your own positive stories or thoughts in the comments box below 🙂

Thank you message from Liz: I would like to thank you all for your kind responses to my story. I apologise for not being able to answer each of your comments individually. However, I read each one carefully and was touched by them all. Your instinctive insight really affected me.

I have always had deep respect for anyone striving to change their lives for the better. It takes a certain type of person to do this. IELTS is a steppingstone to a new and hopefully better future for you all. While you have been striving to push past frustrations or disappointments, I have been in a similar situation but for a different reason. Maybe that is why this website has such positive vibes. We understand one another, respect one another and appreciate one another 😊

There are some of you out there who are struggling right now with extremely difficult situations, some much worse than mine. Take strength in my story and take those small steps whenever you are able. Changing your situation at this moment in time might not be possible, but you can still allow positive energy to come into your life regardless of your situation. From actively learning something new, developing a new skill or helping others to just simply appreciating the beauty of a flower, all these tiny positive thoughts and actions will help to gradually change life as you know it. For those of you who have survived past suffering, I hope you will also share your story one day. By sharing our stories, we remind ourselves and each other of what life is really about.

Behind a smile may be a painful past. Behind tears and weakness may be a hero. Never be too quick to judge.

Thank you all for your kindness and support. Good luck to you all !! 😊 All the best, Liz

    Hi Liz
I am a teacher and I have used your lessons to teach my students. Thank you very much for sharing so generously. My students have benefitted a lot from your lessons and I could see how they applied what you have taught them in different papers – essay writing, listening, grammar and reading comprehension.
I am sorry to learnt of your illness. Your resilience and courage to move on despite adversities have inspired me. I want to use your story to impact my students who have failed in English Language.
I hope that you will fully recover to pursue your dreams again. Don’t give up and continue to inspire people. All the best!

  6. Dear liz,
Your story has really inspired me.. Your precious smile is invaluable, and only people got through tough times can understand the value of ones true self, where you transmitted disability into limitless possibility, which I hope is the purpose of your life. Everyone one in this world is looking for that ultimate purpose, even I have been looking for so many years. But today when I read your story, it motivates me to move forward to find the value in life that I truly care about. God bless you and I wish you will recover soon to continue enlightening the world by spreading the wings of knowledge in the midst of all darkness around you .

  7. Dear Liz,

I was really emotional when I was reading your condition. It somehow affected me as well. Recently I acquired HIV and became so upset with myself. I wouldn’t lie, I want to take my own life at some point. I am just starting to achieve my dreams, getting the job that I want, earning a big salary, but then, this happened. I just feel so depressed and alone. I cried when I realized I am still fortunate. Even a person like you felt the same way. I thank you for all the tips you gave, especially about the positive mindset. No one can stop anyone to achieve their dreams. And because of you, I want to fight for my life. I want to fight for my dreams even though my life won’t be the same again.

I just wish people will understand that we didn’t choose to become sick, probably I made a wrong decision, but I am still a human. I hope someday, all countries will not discriminate against HIV. A lot of countries still have prohibitions with people living with HIV like the middle east, Australia, and New Zealand. I hope they realize that HIV can be stopped if properly managed with the medicine. I want to live in New Zealand, that’s my dream but now with my condition, I cannot achieve it anymore. Hopefully, one day, being sick wouldn’t stop you from reaching what you desire in life.

  8. Never knew such a sweet, lovely person in the videos is going through so much. You inspire me a lot now. You will be in my prayers every day. I wish you a miraculous healing.

  10. Hello Liz,

I have just started to prepare for IELTS from your website . Even though it is only the very beginning of a hard work, I have to say that you reflect positivity and knowledge. That smile on your face and your sweet voice is the best i could ever have to make my studies easier and satisfying. You suddenly have an answer for every question that occasionally comes to my mind and makes me wonder. The fact that you do not forget to explain everything in details, being extremely helpful makes me truly belive that there exist people in the world who just get satisfaction by sharing their very best and helping. I wish there could be more people like you. The world would definitely be a better place. What is more, i just red your story. My heart just skipped a beat. You are so damn strong women! Thank you for sharing your story to make us trust and find strength within us. Please take care! Thank you!

  11. Dear Ma’am

    Dear Liz,
I have three days until my exam. Your story gave me so much strength. You are beautiful soal. I have been reading your website for a few months now and I have been sending you positive energy, best wishes and prayers all the time. I was really touched by the amount of material you have shared here, so generously. I could always feel that you have a big heart. May you always be happy, healthy and positive.
I will always be grateful for all of your efforts.
    With love,

  13. Thank you so much, Liz for your story. It was indeed inspiring that despite the isolation and suffering, you have been able to create something great. Despite your pain, you decided to help thousands of students achieve success in the IELTS. I had a Speaking test today and I read your tips before my test. I must say that I was filled with utmost confidence. May God bless you in all that you do.

  14. Thank you for sharing, Liz. I am a teacher who has used your website for years and often wondered about the friendly comments and person we see in the photos and videos. Today I looked at the recent speaking topics, as I always do when a student has an exam looming, and found this. Thank you for organising the speaking topics so clearly as I know I can truly help my students prepare for what they may actually be asked. Other parts of your website are perfect to set for homework and/or flipped lessons. So after all of these years: thank you because you have helped my students enormously as well (like ripples in a pond).
I’m sorry you are alone now and that you have been so ill. You put so much work into your website that I could never have imagined this was the case. I know it must be challenging to find friends, etcetera and am happy to offer something of the sort to you. I have been a volunteer befriender for Age Concern UK for two years (I visit (now call) an elderly man once a week to chat) and would be very happy to do something similar for you. This may sound forward, but I know we would have a great deal to talk about (I was an examiner for 15 years and recognise my own passion for students’ success in what you do). Let me know; I would completely understand if you would rather not.
Thank you once again for your amazing work. My teaching would not have been the same without it. Take care and I hope today is a good day for you.
All my thanks and best wishes
    Jenna

    Hi Liz,

I got into your page by a friend of mine. Before that, I had been wandering around other links for a one-stop resource. But now, I never search. I know I am on the right place. I guessed you should have a big team working for you and you must be around people who are unbelievably inspiring.
I still can’t imagine you are really having such perspectives. Although I wish not, had it not been such we might not have you! How strong a mind can be? How selfless a purpose of life can be? How much intriguing a story can be?
I pray for your longer life to Almighty. May you regain your health! May you stay in peace!

But your story was totally different. I’m so sorry!!

In all your videos you have a smiley face, be like this. I pray to GOD that you get well soon and overcome all your obstacles.

    Dear Liz,
My name is Tanya . What an incredible strength you have which helped you survive through so much pain in life. The same situation happened to me earlier this year not physically but emotionally. My mother expired earlier this year and this completely drove me to depression as it was my mother’s dream to let me settle in Abroad and she was the only source of strength for me after losing my father and grandmother within a short span of time. I was completely devastated and just was on the verge of giving up my dream of moving to abroad but after reading your story it again gave me confidence to move forward in difficult times as life is totally unpredictable. Your story truly inspires a lot.
I just wish you loads of happiness in life..
    Thank you so much Liz..
    You are the purest soul.

      Hi Liz,
Thanks for all that you are doing to the community.
One of the questions may pop up in IELTS is that how do you face a FAILURE in life? Have you faced a FAILURE in your own life in the past?
If faced with a FAILURE in the future how would you deal with it?
What are your suggestions to deal with FAILURE?

I am sure all of us are indebted to your expert answers.
      Thank you,
      John

  40. Hi Liz. I’m a student from China. Ever since I’ve decided to be an Ielts teacher myself, I have been studying all the material offered by your website & youtube videos to prepare for the exam. I am so shocked to learn that all these great work was done while you were in such a lonely and difficult time. Despite my age, I have also sufferred from chronic health issues which lower my quality of life at a young age and have to always be hyper-vigilant physically. It is so true that we have to save ourselves and help ourselves by taking small steps to keep the “vehicle” going. Sometimes life just indiscriminately casts pure misfortune and cruelty upon us that would make us die inside. But we choose not to be bitter but to moving on. I admire your courage and preseverance, and wish we will all land OK in the near future.

  41. Dear Liz,

This is so inspiring and heart melting truth, am one of your follower .with this you just advised a soul and am grateful for all the ielts lessons am sure I will make my next ielts test,
was depressed today before reading this because so many things happening around me was almost giving up but after reading this I am sure of getting there soon.
    Thanks Liz for everything.

  42. Hi, Liz.

Thanks for sharing your inspirational story. You’re really brave and have a lot of courage. I cannot image the difficulty of physical and psychological pain you had suffered. Sickness can be devastated to one’s body and mind, especially when it lasts long. Thanks for giving me encouragement by sharing them. I’m trying to prepare myself to take an IELTS exam by practicing writing first, then speaking, finally listening and reading. Learning to write task 2 is kind of scary but I’ll be patient, keep forwarding everyday. Any improvements will contribute to my success on IELTS test.

Please take care. Exercise yourself physically while you can. Be healthy! Be strong!

  43. It was a great story to read..as a medical professional I could imagine, your situation in that challenging time.
You said ,eigher most of people too delay or gave up too sooner..You are exactly correct and it is touch very hard to me.because I was a that type of person.
But now I feel very positive and also some determined feeling.
Again I have to say it was a very inspiring story and Absolutely you are a great human being…
Thanks a lot sharing with us.

  46. Dear Liz
You are a great inspiration for me! I appreciate what you do very much!

  47. Dear Liz,
Your story is so inspiring and touching. This indeed is a book on it’s own! I just learnt or should I say this story just confirmed to me that looking up to people for assistance to move to the top is not the best but looking inward to the ‘seed’ in you and how to develop it.
People including family and friends, may have their reasons for abandoning you in the moment of trials / troubles it is certain that your gifting is right there with you.

    God be with you Liz.

I am still enjoying the e-Book I bought last month – Ideas for IELTS Essay Topics.

    Thank you
    Raphael

    Dear Liz
Your story inspired me to move on in my life despite of all bad circumstances surrounding us ( lockdown, slow economy…. Etc) which made most of us (including me) pessimistics.

I really wish you all the best and to be in a good health always to achieve more goals in your beautiful life because you deserve more good.

Thank you and best wishes from the bottom of my heart.

  59. Hi, Liz!
My name’s Maria, and I teach, too!
Judging from the comments from your followers, it is obvious that you do more than teach; you manage to inspire! I have been following your website with interest and am learning a great deal from you, while enjoying the positive energy you transmit. You’ve set the bar quite high for other teachers out there, but we should always try that little bit harder to improve our game. It’s a win win story for teachers and students alike. Thanks for your help. Stay strong!

  60. Hi dear Liz! I am one of the alumni of the IELTS Liz site. It is thanks to you that I managed to ace the IELTS. Unfortunately for me and most of us, I am uncertain as to when I can take the next challenge of sitting an international medical exam owing to the covid pandemic.

First of all I am truly sorry about all that you had to go through. You are such a pure and selfless being. Being a medical doctor and I could tell from some of your video tutorials you were looking somewhat pale and it got me a little concerned but I dismissed the thought because you were in such good spirits so I assumed it must have been something about the video effects or something, that’s how good you were at masking your condition!!

Secondly, I would take this opportunity to thank you profusely for sharing your inspirational story with us. I congratulate you for your perseverence and positivity which is absolutely exemplary!

Despite that I am through with my IELTS exam, I keep coming to your site from time to time to check whether you’ve released any new videos, for me that would be an indicator that your health has markedly improved.

Thank you for reminding us about our duty to keep pushing and making the most of the time we have in this world and to always be optimistic no matter how dark our days may seem.

This is a great lesson for me as sometimes I feel a decreased need to study for my exam which had to be postponed because of covid and given the lockdown situation, there’s no telling when I will be able to travel to my exam centre which is in a different continent than I live. Everything seems so dark and uncertain but I believe there will always be sunshine after the rain, whenever that will be. I will keep preparing well for the exam so I can give it my best shot once the lockdown has been lifted. You have inspired me greatly and I am so grateful! Long live our Liz! I say a special prayer for you and your health everyday just before I go to bed, you are and will always be one of my best teachers.

I am optimistic that one day you will overcome this illness and it will become history and we could throw a get together party of ieltsliz-alumni, wouldn’t that be fun?! Like one of the previous commentors, I too apologize for sounding too religious but I know for certain that God blesses hardwork and rewards people that persevere. He will be your shepherded and your fortress and a very present help for you at all times, even when you may not see it at times. One day it shall come to pass that you will look back and be amazed at where you came from.

And all those who abandoned you when you needed them most will look at you and acknowledge that, “The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.”

Lots of love from East Africa <3

  67. Dear Liz,
You have an incredible life experiences and pretty inspirational for lost people amidst personal confusion, frustration and difficulties. You are an enlightened soul and knows how to make best use of life. Your experiences and success motivated me to take small steps, remain positive and be mindful of what small things every one of us are doing in difficult situation. Essentially we are always alone, isolation is the fact of life says the wise people.
Actually your life taught me how can we have a strategic approach while doing the things under difficult circumstances. I salute your struggle and success.

  70. Hi Liz,
Who would have thought that there is so much pain hidden behind such a smiling face!
I can connect with you on some of the facts in your story, mainly the year 2013 lead me to disorientation. Though it was not my health, thankfully, but it was my fate. I started losing money in my business after that fatal event. I didn’t know what I was doing so I thought to move to a different country. Anyways, the story is long and I don’t want to bore you with facts. In your next lesson can you please give us some tips on reading and listening as I am pretty weak in these two subjects. I am willing to take a paid course on reading and listening if you have one.
    Thank you,
    John

  73. Hi Liz,
your story encouraged me a lot.you are a deist kind of person.you story is a similar kind of way of mine, but its not fully the same.you are so special and have many positive points to grab.you are a great teacher.I love respect you a lot.

  74. Hey Liz, I’m inspired by your strong determiantion and your achievement you have made based on your health conditon, and I couldn’t image how you have realized your goal step by step, even though you could only work 1 or 2 hours a day and no families around you to take care of you while you were sick. I could image how desperate and depressed you were feeling at that time and isolated by your families. But, you turned out to be a better and stronger person then what you could ever be. Brilliant! I had a struggling time finishing my Ph.D dissertation, because the topic is not my passion, but I have spent 7 years, so I have to get it done and put an end to this journey, so that I could start a new chapter of my life. BUt, compared with your adversity, mine was very trivial, because I still got support from my familes, from material and mental perspective. I should be appreciative for everything I have, a good health, a loving and caring family. I should not feel depressed by the situation I’m stucking in right now, because it’s nothing compared with yours. I should rebuild my confidence and mentality to strive for my goal. Thanks for sharing your story. Please take care of yourself. You are not alone, all the ielts takers who learn resources from your website are on your side and we love you!

  75. Your story underscores the fact that life is full of challenges everywhere. I am in a catch-22 situation right now due to the lockdown cum the socio-economic condition of my country
I have explored every means I know to get out the mess, but my efforts seem to no avail. Nevertheless, your success story has fuelled my confidence and determination that the seemingly insurmountable mountain will definitely be surmounted by His grace. 83. Hi Liz, I so much thank God for your life. You’re such a strong and courageous woman. Your story is very inspiring and motivational and speaks volume of the power of one having a strong will and being positive.
When we believe in ourselves, we can do exploits.
I’ve had so many challenges in life especially when I was a student and as a married woman. When I’m weak and frustrated and the pressure becomes too much, I speak to myself the Word of God from the Book of Philippians 4 vs 13 which says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. God finally saw me through in all this.
I’ve come to learn that when one gives up on anything, he/she becomes a loser. Let’s all keep our faith and be strong. Once there’s life, there’s hope. We’ll continue to work towards reaching our goals and aspirations. COVID-19 shall one day become a thing of the past. Stay safe.

Am impressed with your story… At Age 13, i dropped out from high school. After 7 years of doing nothing i decided to enroll in school again. I did many odd jobs like working as Labor boy with brick layers and attended Private lessons. I sat for External Exam for high school certificate examination for 5 years before i could get a credit pass. Got admitted into a prestious University for two years and due to my poor high school background and externe poverty as i worked while schooling full time i was expired from the University after my 4th Semester. I went back home wept over it and applied again. I got admitted again into another great University here and studied same Course Geography and Planning. I didn’t give up despite dropping out from high school and University after my 4th semesters. Today am a Graduate working with Huawei as an IT Software Engineer. Last year i was admitted into a German University, but i could not get my brother to send me a sponsorship letter for “Prove of Funds” i was not able to travel to Germany.. Hopefully in October i will be traveling to Germany for my Masters despite setbacks since last year. The Corona Virus seems like an obstacle but am rest assured that i am going to be successful this time… Thanks for up Lifting my spirit.

  106. Hi Liz,

First of all, HATS OFF! for your courage, strong mind and perseverance throughout your life , especially during the most challenging years 😊. You are the first to update any changes in the IELTS exam.

Whenever I saw your videos, I used to image myself that you have a great team working with for this extraordinary success in the project in which you have assumed. 128. Kishor Dahal says

    Hi Liz,
Thank you aplenty for such a motivational and inspiring story. I found an oasis amidst the stormy and parched desolate desert where the air smells pandemic, and lockdown has become a “luck down” for many. I was thoroughly moved by your story. I feel for you. Truly I got misty-eyed while reading the entire story. Your perseverance, determination and the stubbornness to see the positive side of life amidst health crisis and move forward accordingly can not be taken lightly and a typical sob story, it projects you a sturdy and resilient human being. A huge salute to you. If you don’t mind, please regard a person like me who virtually exists in another part of the world, as a close member of your family. Actually you have got a larger family than you have ever thought of. I am going to read this story aloud today in the evening to my two boys and reread louder to myself. You are more than awesome. You are an icon, an inspiration and synonymous to hopefulness.

I am struggling to learn English and further my career at a time when midlife crisis has become a part of absurd life and at a time when existential questions hound the malleable mind incessantly plucking off the sleep from the bed. Despite all the odds, I am shoving myself forward albeit the chaos, the storm , the uncertainty threaten to stymie my projects. The other day, when I was watching a Netflix series, one of the characters who was predicted with certainty to die within few months could be heard saying optimistically, “Rejoice or make use of every minute even if you know you are dying, because crying and getting depressed robs you off terribly of all the nuances of life. Either way you are dying, fear not the death, embrace the moment, Carpe diem!” This is my rough copy of the conversation. The character looked happy, he was getting hitched and dancing with the new bride.

Now I realize that my personal story of confusion and dilemma pales in comparison with your personal story and the Netflix story.

How about writing a book based on your life stories, Liz.
    Regards,
Kishor ( one of your family members)

  129. Liz I feel for you with all of my heart. Im surprised why isnt there a family around to hold you. I’ve a 4 year old daughter and I love her exceptionally. Whenever I observe a girl being sad, I feel for her as if she is a little girl back again. However older we get, we need love care and affection to thrive. I had friends at all steps of my life, different groups, but now after I got married in year 2012, I dont have any here in this city. I miss my old friends. Can we try to be friends? Dont mind me but do consider. I totally understand personal space and moods. And I got patience. You’ve done well for yourself, I’m proud!
You know where to reach me if you would like to try being acquainted.

  133. It did not take me long at all to find the story from my email inbox was something special and inspirational, which somebody spares her valuable time to share her story. That was making me feel loved and special.

There is a quote that I love to recall all the time I struggle with something that I have to make it, “KEEP CALM & CARRY ON,” which has encouraged me to settle down in Canada during the last couple of years. Several obstacles, other people said that your goal would not be reached out, even impossible, have surrounded me; however, those have not had enough to stop me because I firmly believed in myself.

There can be no doubt that every small step we are doing right now guarantees what the future looks like around us. In retrospect, I have already known how I exert myself and how important every moment is I spend towards my goal. Lastly, I hope we will make the best use of our present time!!

  134. Hi Liz, Allah blessed you always you are our mentor and I always feel you as a part of my family because you are working for us and always support us like a mother.
    Love you !
    Mom Liz

Firstly, heartiest congratulations on your success. It is a well deserved one. It is super inspiring too, just what we all need in this stressful time. I worked with corporates for over a decade when my mind and body started falling apart because of the stress it brought along. I was bed-ridden for a few weeks too. That was the time I introspected and decided to take charge of my health and also to find my passion. Slowly, after various failed attempts at various ventures I found my passion of training and teaching. Since then I have been educating myself to start a new career and I have been involved in being an English Language trainer, IELTS trainer and studying for TESOL as well. I aspire to keep educating myself, imparting my learnings and help students to achieve their dream. During this period many people thought that it was a mistake to change a career of almost of 13years and venture into an unknown territory. However, I love what I do and will continue irrespective of any support or not. After learning your story I respect you more now as a person and as a professional, and you gave me courage to share my story as well. All the best to you! Let’s Keep Rocking! 🙂

I read your story.you really had very tough time in life. How are you keeping now?Is your health better or you are still struggling ? May God give you more strength to handle things in a better way.
I am preparing for IELTS since January this year. I appeared once in March and got 6,6.5,7,7.5 in RWSL respectively.i was finding it very hard to prepare to score 7788 which is my minimum requirement. After reading your struggle i thing by taking small steps at a time i can make it. i just don’t understand how should i plan my preparation ? Like should i master one module at a time and then move to next one or everything should go parallel ?I wonder if i understand some study plan and steps to go about ,i can do better.
Can you guide me on this.
    Regards

  221. Greetings Liz.
    How to express this now…?
When i got to know about your health 3-4 months ago (in a comment under the topic feb-april speaking topics) . We had a brief convo over it, about Being positive…. N.. Just by being able to share even a tiniest fraction of concern at that time…. Is making me feel so joyous to hear from you today…… I hope you continue to be better n better.
Times gets difficult n even more when one has to face them alone.. But i guess thats only, when one gets to be strongest..
“The moment the night gets the darkest, Sunrise is what happens the earliest”

N well speaking of ‘things not going your way’.. I guess a lot of people will have a lot to share..

Looking forward to have more n more lessons from ya, mam! Now that, the struggle behind your lively smile is revealed, though the suferring expressed is nowhere near to what is felt, yet it makes it more lively!!
Thank you so much for everything.

  227. Dear Liz,

Your teaching is so clean, honest and human that it is unfair what you have been through!

Your “down to earth manners”, your way of delivering concepts in a respectful, calm way. There are so many teachers who should learn from your way of approaching students!

Thank you, thank you and infinite thanks for your teaching and for sharing your personal story with me

Life might not be unfair but society sometimes is cruel and unfair

All the best for you 🙏

    Hesther

  231. Truly inspiring Liz. I hardly comment on any channels. But this is motivating. Even I lost my father when I was 8 years old (now am 32) and my mother struggled hard to bring up two small kids without any family support. She raised us amidst so many struggles and we are now in a good position. My life lessons made me strong to achieve things.

Take care of your health !! you are truly a genuine human being by heart, rendering seamless free service to us. I pray almighty to strengthen you and make you strong in both mind and body.

  232. Josephine Opare says

  233. What an astonishing and moving story, Liz. I had a tear in my eye as I read it. I know you will continue to inspire students across the world, most of whom would have had no idea of the story behind your amazingly successful website.

  234. Hi Liz,
Thank you very much for sharing your personal story which is so inspiring and heart-touching. I have always been thinking of you as my idol and and an inspirational model. I came to your website in 2016 when I was a PhD student. I did not need to learn Ielts at that time but I was fortunate enough to be redirected to your website in one cold winter day. I immediately adored your calmness and your way of communication. I have had the feeling that You were standing physically in front of me and talking about your knowledge with all your kindness, calmness and wiseness. I signed up for your websites since then, I bought your Task 2 videos just because I love your way of teaching, I gave you comments and feedback on your draft e-book as I wish you more successful. I love your videos so much that I can repeat every single word from them, I can almost guess where you gonna pause or raise your voice. I practiced “Hello, my name is Mai” with the hope of feeling like you say “Hello, my name is Liz”…
In 2017, I changed my way of presentation, I focused more about the messages and the way to interact with /attract attention from audience. Thanks to the useful tips and technique that I learned from you, I won many prizes of presentation at university and regional conferences.
The most meaningful thing to me when I read your story is that my world was also collapsed in 2016. I found you and your website when I was most frustrated and almost gave up everything. Thanks God showing your lights to me and thank you very much for every little thing you have done for students all over the world.
I wish you all the best and keep up the good work.
Thanks again for sharing your story.
    Love from Mai (Vietnam)

Thank you for giving to this work because it turned out to be my only way to have passed the IELTS.
