Below is a list of common girl’s name in England with an audio as well so you can hear the pronunciation of the name. It is important to learn common names in English for your IELTS listening test. IELTS frequently ask you to listen for personal information such as a name in section 1. You can also listen to boys’ names or watch a video to practice listening for names.
Mistake: Please notice that there is a mistake with the pronunciation of Scarlett in the audio. The audio actually says “Charlotte”. Sorry about that.
Hello Liz,
Here you have mentioned Sarah with a ‘h’ but in the Listening exercise, you have mentioned Sara. How do we know which one is it?
IT is usually spelled with an “h” unless the recording spells it differently.
I can’t deny the fact I was initially very skeptical about IELTS and have no idea of where to start with, but thank God a friend sent me your Web and I found it very very useful. Thanks ma for your efforts towards helping humanity in achieving the goal.
I’m glad you found my site 🙂
Is spelling Emilia wrong as you have mentioned it as Amilia, also is jackqueline is a wrong spelling?
The pronunciation of Emilia is correct. The first sound is a schwa. Look up schwa online and learn about it – it is an important sound in English.
I hope to learn everything from you

Hi Liz,
Scarlett and charlotte has same pronunciation. Or i am not able to identify the subtle difference in them?
Scarlett starts with “sk” and Charlotte starts with “Sh” pronunciation.
Liz
you may need to correct that. you indeed pronounce it with ‘sh’ although it’s scarlett. This is the third name from the last. thanks
It is not pronounced “sh”: http://dictionary.cambridge.org/pronunciation/english/scarlet
